Directional light lighting translucent objects through walls

I have an indoor lumen lit scene with a directional light that’s mostly occluded by walls. Whenever I set a material blend mode to Translucent or Shading Model to Subsurface the directional light seems to influence the object by lighting it up as if it would be emissive. When the directional light is turned off the object/material behaves normally.

Is this intentional or is it a bug?

Have you managed to find a solution to this? I’m facing the same issue, and I’m out of ideas how can I solve it.
