Different images size

Dear RC addicts,

I am trying to align efficiently images from MSL Curiosity (the present martian rover)
I am using 3 kind of images:

  1. Low def images: B&W images (256x256 px) recolorized, fov 45x45°
  2. mid def images: B&W images (1000x1000 px) recolorized
  3. Hi def images : Color Images (1200x1200 px)

For mid def images, here are available information:

  • Pixel scale at the center of the FOV 0.82 mrad/pixel
  • Focal Length 14.67 mm
  • f/number 12
  • Entrance Pupil Diameter 1.25 mm
  • Field of View (horizontal × vertical) 45 × 45 degrees
  • Diagonal FOV 67 degrees
  • Depth of Field 0.5 meters–infinity
  • Hyperfocal Distance 1.0 meters
  • Spectral Range 600–800 nm

Low def images are obtained from the same camera which are downsampled

High def images are dual:

  • 34 mm focal length // 100 mm focal length
  • f/8 lens illuminating a 15° FOV // f/10 lens square fov of 1200x1200px

I am trying to align but it makes some strange things… images appear to be as on a sphere: Does someone could help to configure properly RC or to process efficiently images?

In the same way, I am trying to define camera sensor info, but I did not succeed yet…

Many thanks in advance,

F

Hi Francois,

is this a fish-eye lens you are talking about? Because that can be difficult.

You might try a different distortion model (brown 4 or I think division might be specifically for fish-eye lenses).

Have you tried to delete all components and re-align from scratch?

Also, when you say re-colorised, what does that mean? Since RC relies on RGB information, I am not sure that it will work like that.

If it is possible for you to share some images, I could take a look…

Hi Götz,

Thank you for your aswer.

It’s not a fisheye, but your rigth to talk about that, as the result seem to be as if images were in this format.

RC uses RGB information? I didn’t know… I recolorized using a mean of spectral RGB distribution

Here are some images samples for each kind

High def color (I’ve just reduce the size of the image)

Low def B&W recolorized

Mid def B&W recolorized

Yes, definitely RGB, or rather color in general.

But it might still work.

I asked about a fisheye because I think the error did occur with those before.

Have you tried to re-run everything?

My offer still stands…

Ok I try to re-run everything with these settings, do you think it’s ok?

I can share you images, contact me at contact[at]vr2planets.com
