Hello. I see that many people here use RealityCapture In combination with 3d scanners.
We use Artec Spider, which provides good geometry, but not the best texture. As I understand Real capture can give very good textures, which could after be baked to 3d scan.
I don’t understand which version of Real capture to buy. Could you please explain the difference between them and which one suits more for such task. As I don’t want to pay more if I can get what I need from cheaper version.
Hello DrobKy,
you can find the comparison of supported features in all licenses here:
https://www.capturingreality.com/Product#Compare
Demo version supports all the features except exporting the results. It is free and time-unlimited.
Laser scan import is supported in all paid licenses except PGM license.
Promo license is 3 months license and requires active internet connection during export. Promo license is limited to 2500 images/laser scans and does not support automatic markers detection.
PGM license is a perpetual license. It is limited to 2500 images per project. This type of license does not require any Internet connection.
CLI license is our most powerful license and supports command line processing. The CLI works offline. It is the only fully-featured application with a visible command-line interface within the standard GUI. RealityCapture CLI can be bought for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on the length of your projects.
RealityCapture is a perpetual license and can be used completely offline. This license does not support command line processing.
Well, Spider is not a Laser scanner. What about structured light scanners compatability. It can export in obj for example. As I know I don’t have to import scan at all, as I can take a model from Spider and a model from RealityCapture and bake textures in third party software. Or it’s better to import scan if I have one? I’m afraid that a complex geometry I scan can give moderate difference in shapes, which will cause artifacts in baked textures.
hello, the important thing here is what formats you can import into RealityCapture, you can find the list here: https://support.capturingreality.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001527832-RC-s-input-import-file-formats
using laser scans is not necessary but it can help the overall quality, especially when combined with quality photographs, you can see the diiference here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-4RsCIuKCw
Thank you Lucia CR,
So Laser scan is just one of the options to increase quality, and I can use obj for same purpose with no problems? Are there any limitations on mesh size/the number of polygons?
So I can at first download demo version to understand if 2500 images per project is enough for me to choose the right version. I see, that you provide 1 year free updates for RealityCapture PGM and RealityCapture versions. What will be update cost after this period?
hello again,
you can import objs for re-texturing in RC,
the limitation can be your HW memory consumption: https://support.capturingreality.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001524071-OS-and-hardware-requirements,
you can opt for more years of free updates and priority technical support (maintenance package) for RealityCapture (also reffered to as perpetual/full/permanent/lifetime/app) and RealityCapture PGM licenses – currently for 25% of the license price (for a year)
