[DEVLOG] Droplet: States of Matter (3D platformer)

Oh, it’s actually more of a futuristic-type motorcycle (aptly named Watercycle) though a traditional bicycle would be a neat idea too. It plays a bit like an endless runner in that you can veer to the left and right and jump off ramps. And also, the same mechanics you’d find in the game like changing states of matter, different types of platforms, freezing surfaces and whatnot - those are all in these stages.

In my opinion the art in general needs a big improvement but you are making a big effort with the game so, congratulations. Keep working like that!

Thanks! This has by far been my largest project to date, and I’m glad how it’s turning out so far.

I definitely agree that the art needs improving. I’m in the process of going through the game and replacing temp assets, so hopefully, I’ll be able to settle with a style that’s a little easier on the eyes.

Been awhile since I’ve updated this thread. I’ve been working at a slower pace due to other obligations, but I’ve still been making progress. I’m doing a complete redesign of the player character. It’s going pretty well and I’ll post some screenshots once I’ve done more animations.

In other news, I’ve added a new menu that better keeps track of all your progress. From the pause menu, you can now view your totals level by level.

Most of my work since my last post here has been on quality of life improvements and bug fixing, but I managed to get the new model for the player character done. This one’s capable of many different facial expressions. I’ll need to add the rest of the animations, but I’m off to a good start. Right now, I have it so that if you’re low on HP, the idle animation will be different as if your character is tired.

You may also notice that some of the crates shown in these pics are colored silver. These are reinforced metal crates that can only be broken with melee attacks. This is just to add some variety to the traversal of levels.

I posted this on Discord already, but I thought I might check in here. First off, apologies for the lack of updates. Shortly after pushing the last build, I ended up injuring my wrists and arms. It may be a possible case of carpal tunnel syndrome. But don’t worry. I’ve had a pretty steady recovery.

Hopefully, once I’m well enough, I’ll be able to continue to full-fledged development. In the meantime, I’ve mostly been looking over and improving the game’s soundtrack. Here’s a taste of it so far. An updated version of the Temple of Sobek theme:

New video showing the Sprites and Elves area

I started classes which is why I’ve been slow to put out updates lately. But quite a few things got done! Lots of quality of life improvements and bug fixes. I’ve also started work on a dynamic UI. The biggest new feature is a completely redesigned boss fight with Lord Krypton. The arena’s visuals still need polish, but here’s his new model.

Still been quite busy with classes, but I made great progress this weekend. The Lord Krypton boss fight now has intro and outro cutscenes to convey the narrative better. I’ve also been working on adding a few idle animations. For example, shivering when in ice form or falling asleep while in water form.
