Desert Gas Station Environment

Hello everyone I want to show the new project im gonna be working on for the weeks ahead, this time im gonna be making a Desert Gas Station, the idea is to show it being in decay, with old equipment and the building itself being dirty and worn out. Im gonna be focusing in the outside completely and if theres the opportunity I will make the inside too.

Week 1: For this first week I set up the landscape itself, applying sand textures to the floor as well to give it the initial look and vibe, also I set up the blocking and planned the environment and its assets to work on.

Heres the moodboard of the scene and the assets planned for the moment:

And heres the blocking of the scene:

Hope you like it! and see you next week!

Week 2:
This week I completely modeled the modular assets, which are used in the main store building, the garage next to it, and the gas station itself, which includes the canopy in front and the islands where the gas pumps and pillars go. I also placed the assets in the scene and created the cinematic cameras for the renders.

Also I took some pictures of the modular assets in a separate scene

Week 3:

This week I completely focused on the modular assets, I did the UVs and applied textures to all of them, also I made really important changes to the landscape itself, as I added more variations on the land and also added mountains around. Finally I changed some cameras, that were focusing too far, to be closer to the main point of focus of the scene itself.

Here’s are the modular assets:

Here’s how the scene it’s going:

Week 4:

This week my main focus was on doing the road, I did it using a plane with a road texture and I applied it on the environment using splines, also I modeled the electric posts on the side of the road, with them placed correctly, I created the cables connecting them using the cable actor component in Unreal. Finally I made the first pass on lighting making it darker, as it was too bright and over exposed, also I changed the clouds, making them less but changing them to look better, so the sky looks according to a desert.

Week 5:

This week my main focus was on the main hero asset, for this project my hero asset is the Gas Pumps, which I chose to do with a vintage style, so this week I focused almost completely on the modeling and texturing of this asset, I put a lot of effort trying to keep and replicate evey little detail of it, for example on the fuel nozzle. The result was pretty good in my opinion. Also I had time to model the cone asset and texture it as well.

Also I tested the performance with the cable actors in the scene, and the result is good and it doesnt seem to have major impact on the performance. For next week I want to focus on some cameras that are pointing to the ground a little too much, and also I want a camera to focus on the hero asset more, as well to keep progressing on the environment.

Week 6:

This week my main focus was on the first pass on foliage and set dressing, I added a lot of grass and plants around and also some decals of tire tracks around. Also I modeled assets and textured them that are the bench, the lamp and a stop sign.

Finally I made some changes to the static cameras, also adding a new one, the lighting I made it a little brighter to see some details better and a first pass on cinematic cameras.
