Depth of Field not working anymore

I’m working on a cinematic piece and I noticed the DoF on my main cam suddenly stopped working after I did some focal length automation for a test sequence. I’ve backed up the innitial camera actor though, and on that one it’s still working fine. I copied all the exact settings onto the other one then, but it just doesn’t react to it anymore, no clue why. I’m on 5.5. Any clues?

Hey there srswntr,

Look at your sequencer for the Main camera and see if there are any DOF keys set remove them and check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion. The standard keyframes were set in sequencer, removed them but nothing changed. Still no DoF. Also of course I need to be able to automate DoF settings without it just messing up everytime…

I might know some other ways around.

Go to your Cinecam_MAIN_backup and go to Focus Settings

Go to Current Aperture which I see on yours is F 5.0

This is a shallow depth of field.

Shallow Depth of Field f 1.4 to F 5.6

Larger Depth of Field F8 to F22

Change the Aperture to something around an 8 or check the setting you have on your Cinecam_MAIN1 and compare. You should see the some blurriness go away.

Another way to see where your DOF is doing

Focus Setting > Check “Draw Debug Focus Plane” > Go to Manual Focus Distance and click and hold over the numbers and drag it back and forth should be able to see a purple guide on the map. That tells you what’s going to be in focus.

If that does not work then delete and recreate the CineCameraActor.

Hopefully, this helped, but If it’s still not working let me know I’ll run some tests on my end and see what I can come up with and help you out.

Thanks for your suggestions, I did of course already try around with all those settings beforehand, I strongly believe there’s some bug within DoF somewhere. I’ve been using the backup cam for a few days now and the problem didn’t occur again so far, but I’ll keep an eye on it and write an update if it happens again.
