Deleting large amounts of actors from a datasmith scene is slow

Currently the deleting workflow works like so

  1. click objects
  2. click “delete” key
  3. click “Yes” or “Yes to all” in dialogue pop up.

The issue I’ve found is that when I go to delete an object from a large datasmith scene, or delete a large amount of objects, the dialogue pop up takes a really long time to well, pop up. I’ve had this take multiple minutes sometimes in larger files, and it can get really tedious when I’m removing old data or deleting props from the level.

Is there a work around for this?

It can be slow, as UE4 is doing lots of cleanup behind the scenes. Oddly enough, if you delete those files in 3ds max for example, then re-export, they are removed almost instantly.

Check this thread out, there are some tips here to make working with Datasmith and large numbers of objects painful. The short answer is, at a certain point it’s faster to remove a whole level and re-make it than to delete the objects it contains.

It’s usually more effective to gather all feedback on a single subject in one thread, so it’s easier to see how many people are affected by it:
