delete all data outside reconstruction region

Holy crap this software is insanely good :sunglasses: ! I have several thousand questions, for now a few:

  1. Can I delete all data outside the reconstruction region? what I want is to specify my region, get rid off everything else, then simplify to about 1 million, then export.
  2. If I click ‘Texture’ button does that automatically unwrap for me? I get a little confused as to what operations have already been done.
  3. Is there a way to see the numbers of data points that are in use, like when I simplify I want to know how many I currently have

Thanks.

Hello,

  1. yes, with the filtering tool (+ simplify tool + export…)
  2. if your model is not textured beforehand, then the unwrap is automatically computed according to the default parameters; if your model is already textured, then just its textured image colors are calculated, i.e. the existing unwrap will be used
  3. select a model and have a look at the ‘vertices count’ in the 1Ds view

Hi tgregory747

Yes, set a RECONSTRUCTION REGION and use the FILTERING tool, where you can set inside/outside to be selected and then APPLY to remove the unwanted parts… you always will keep also the original MODEL there…

  1. If I click ‘Texture’ button does that automatically unwrap for me? I get a little confused as to what operations have already been done.

Yes, but I highly recomend you to use the UNWRAP tool because of multiple options how to get it done. I prefer the FIXED TEXEL SIZE and using OPTIMAL TEXEL VALUE…

  1. Is there a way to see the numbers of data points that are in use, like when I simplify I want to know how many I currently have

In the 1Ds view click on a MODEL to get all detailed information on the polygon count and UVs/textures.

Thank you wishgranter and lubenko,

I now see how unwrapping works and that doing in manually I can choose custom parameters. I also see how the filtering can work for what I want, although I’m still learning it. The poly count however I still can’t get. I don’t know how to ‘select the model’ explicitly. When I switch to 2-d view there is no poly information, it’s all information about a particular image I have open in the window next to it.

select the model in the 1Ds view and have a look at the ‘vertices count’ in the same panel underneath

I am in 1ds view and the only thing I see regarding model, is the model of my camera. Here is a screen grab:

Okay, it is not intuitive that the window on the left has different dropdown options than the other windows. Lesson learned. Thank you.
