From what I understand, it’s needed to download the Megascans before 2025, if there wasn’t a paid Quixel subscription.
Still , there is a text in http://www.fab.com/megascans-free that says: “Any Megascans you claim for free on Fab are yours to keep under the Fab Standard License, even after they become paid”, so there is contradicting information
Is downloading really needed? Does someone know how much storage is needed? This is so important as it defines how much should we buy.
If you’d like to download the library from Quixel or Bridge, you are more than welcome to.
However, from Fab’s launch until the end of 2024, you can get Megascans for free under Fab’s Standard License (claim them all with one click). Any Megascans that you claim during this promotional period you will be entitled to use for free even after this promotion ends.

Quixel.com will be shut down eventually and you won’t be able to download from there. If you want to keep assets as they are available there, you need to download them. However, most of those assets are now available on FAB and can be claimed with one click. Once claimed, you will always be able to download them.
So the only reason to dpwnload files from Quixel.com would be A. if you want to stick to the old license (no idea how they differ, but to some it could matter) or B. if you want to keep some assets that are being discontinued (right now ‘only’ 17K of the 18,870 assets are on FAB - some will be added later while some will be disregarded).
