That’s probably just my lack in experience:
Do I need to set the distance between two control points only once or in several cameras?
Hi Götz
need set CP on at least 2 images ( can add on more images, but its not mandatory ) and 2 CP set the scale
But recommend to ALIGN the scene with the “scale bar” so its accepted in the scene to get proper dimensions.
More points you use, the better accuracy you get.
Here is a video showing how to define a distance using a tool -

or manually in 1Ds view -

Excellent, thanks!
I was aware about the CPs needing as many images as possible, but now I understand that the distance is just a constraint of 2 (however well definded) CPs.
It seems as if the click-and-drag method only works in images and not in 3D view.
Wouldn’t it make sence to be able to do it in 3D view, since especially with larger distances they are more likely not to be on one image only?
Yes it’s 2D tool. You can also click-and-drag across other views if you do not have both points in the same image.
