I tried to create the character using the player start blueprint, but it defaulted to the original default pawn. When I deleted the pawn, it defaulted to the flying one seen in the open-world starter level. I didn’t mess with the CPP file of the gamemode before.

check the gamemode override in the world settings, its level dependent so you need to change it on all levels or in the project settings
