Decals on transparent Materials - is there a loophole to achieve this?

Hello guys!

Decals in Twinmotion cannot be placed on materials like glas which is a shame but that’s how it is for now.

I have however found a loophole where you use an opacity map on a solid material to create transparency. This way I can put a costum decal on the material. But as soon as I load in a png (with a transparent background) the whole graphic somehow has a blurred grey box around it.

I’m attaching some fotos here for you guys to see.

If anyone has a solution that would be sosoososo helpful.

Also is there a forum somewhere, where you can put in requests for Twinmotion if you don’t have a Pro Account? Cause using Decals on transparent Materials would be sweeeeeet. :slight_smile:

Here with just the decal costum decal preface which seems to work just fine

I don’t know when or what changed, but it used to work. Maybe it was the 2021 version? It doesn’t work now. But you can get around this by creating a surface element and assigning it a material with an alpha channel. Then you place it on the glass pane. That’s all.

Besides @Sturnus7’s solution,

Here’s a little alternative. Basically, whenever I have a decal to apply to a transparent surface or a mirror, I don’t bother trying 15,000 different versions anymore. I create it custom using Cinema 4D or another program (one polygon + one map + Uvs—> It takes 2 minutes) and apply it to the model.

Voilà un « truc » qui m’énerve sur ce logiciel : les Décals qui ne fonctionnent pas sur du verre/miroir.

Voici une petite alternative. En gros, dès que j’ai un sticker à poser sur une surface transparente ou un miroir je ne me prend plus la tête à faire 15000 essais, je le fabrique sur mesure via C4d où autre (un polygone + 1 map + UV —> ça prend 2 minutes) et je l’applique sur le modèle.
