Decal displaying white edges are certain distance and angle

Hello. I have three decals I have made myself in Photoshop, with the Albedo layer and the opacity layer.

Two of them display perfectly fine, the other however does not. The problematic decal is a simple collection of black rectangles, meant to represent a “ReadMe” sign for player information.

When I am close to the sign displaying the decal and a certain distance, no issues at all. If I am a far distance, or if I am at a side angle to the decal, it displays this annoyingly peculiar white edging around the rectangles.

I’m not sure if this is something to do with the decal material blueprint settings, which is exactly the same as my other two non-problematic decals, or if it is related to the light reflecting.

If anyone knows what is causing this, please let me know. Spent too much time trying to solve this on my own, to no avail!

Thank you

This makes absolutely no sense to me…but I fixed it!

After flipping through various screens and settings, I went into the actual texture for itself, the Albedo layer.

My decals consist of an Albedo and a Opacity texture.

The solution that removed the horrible white edging was as follows:

  • Open the Albedo texture
  • Navigate the Details panel
  • Adjustments
  • Set Brightness from 1.0 to 0.0

This process resulted in the texture for the Albedo going pitch black, but as seen in engine the decal on the signpost is very much still there with no white edging!

Hope this solution can help anyone else that may come across this during gamedev!
