David Salamanca - Procedural Christmas Lights – 8 Animated Lighting Patterns

Create Christmas light strings along a spline in Unreal Engine. Place the included Blueprint, shape the cord, and use it around rooflines, windows, trees, interiors, signs, or custom paths.

Choose compact Classic LED bulbs or faceted C9 bulbs, with Classic or twisted Wired cords. Adjust bulb spacing, colors, emissive glow, and appearance directly in the editor.

8 lighting patterns

  • Combination

  • In Waves

  • Sequential

  • Slow Glow

  • Chasing / Flash

  • Slow Fade

  • Twinkle / Flash

  • Steady On

Preview the lighting patterns in the editor and adjust their settings to suit your scene. Combination cycles through configured patterns, while Steady On provides a constant glow.

Built for real-time scenes

Bulbs and sockets use instanced meshes. Once you finish shaping a string, its cord geometry can be baked into a reusable static mesh. Bulbs and sockets remain instanced, and the bulbs keep their animated lighting patterns.

Adjustable spacing, appearance, and shadow settings help you manage the cost of your light strings. Performance depends on the number of lights, material settings, shadows, and the rest of your scene.
