Datasmith VDP import process unstable in 5.6?

Recently ported a 5.3 project to 5.6, a lot of our assets rely on VDP pipelines, importing, applying recipes then committing. I’ve noticed since using 5.6 that at the import stage it’s hit or miss Engine will fully crash. other times I can do it and it’s fine, I will always make sure i’ve saved scene before doing this action now but wanted to know if this is a registered bug?

Not something we are aware of.
It is worth giving more context:

  • You migrated the dataprep asset (dataprep recipes) and are doing some fresh imports of files? OR are you importing files in 5.6 that would overwrites asset you have previsouly imported in 5.3?
  • What type of files are you importing? CAD or uDatasmith or?
  • You say it is unstable the the import phase, so before applying recipes correct?

So I’m mostly reimporting already created VDP assets, ie a house model, reimporting 3dsMax datasmith exports.

I’ll make a tweak in Max, then reimport the model, it’ll work if it’s brand new version of editor, but if I do this more than one/twice, or a few other thing’s in editor it’ll crash whilst re-importing the model.

Yes it’ll crash when I’ve hit the import button, but I know it can’t be the model since in a fresh editor session it’ll do it right away.

Here’s me reimporting and it worked fine on this instant…
