I am very new to unreal so I apologize if this question is answered elsewhere. I work for an arch firm which primarily uses Revit and am trying to use the Datasmith Direct Link Import. My question is if I apply a material in UE5 but later need to re-link the file, is there a way for the new link to not override the material I applied in unreal. I’d like to use some of the unreal textures and some of the revit import textures but as it stands, I have to wait till everything in the revit model is finished before changing any materials. Thanks for your time!
I would recommend using the Dataprep workflow to bring in your Revit model. You can use a material substitution table to pick which Revit materials you want to replace with UE5 materials.
You would still be using the “datasmith” model, but just importing it using a predefined system that you get to tweak to your liking. Pretty powerful for AEC Visualization.
Datasmith Direct Link for Revit in Unreal Engine 5 preserves your material changes by applying materials in a way that does not override existing ones. After linking your Revit file, manually reassign your custom materials in Unreal to ensure that they remain intact. Datasmith’s “Preserve Data” option allows you to maintain your customizations and avoid overwriting them. By using this approach, you can adjust materials as needed without having to wait for the Revit model to be completed.
