Datasmith Direct Link Workflow Question

So can someone help me with the best methodology of how to use the direct link?

This is what I have done:

  1. I created a basic scene in Max, and used the direct link to send it over to Unreal.
  2. I played around with the scene in Unreal - editing the lights and applying materials.

So far so good.

Now, 2 days later, I want to open my Max file, add some objects & make some edits.

  1. I open Unreal.
  2. I open Max.
  3. I sync using direct link.
  4. It’s asking me where I want to save the data,
  5. I now have an almost duplicate scene loaded into Unreal.

How do I make it so that the Direct Link is picking up from where it was? So that it updates objects and not replaces them?

  1. Open in UE
  2. Open in Max
  3. Datasmith Sync in Max
  4. You should be able to go back to the “Datasmith scene” assets that you imported previously, see that it is no more up to date and sync it.

Here are some states you should see on your scene asset depending on the direct link status. It might not be representative of the latest UI design but it should give you an idea of where you can find info and where to find it.
