Hi there,
I try to export a animation from 3dsMax to Unreal engine 5.1 but when i import my Datasmith file in Unreal i got the following message ‘Failed to load some animation sequences:’
Im using the latest version of Datasmith in combination with 3dsMax 2023 and Unreal Engine 5.1
Even simple animations i try to export are not working as it seems…
This could be caused by several factors, like:
- Incorrect export settings: Make sure that you are exporting the animation data correctly from 3ds Max to Datasmith. Double-check the export settings to ensure that the correct animation data is being exported.
- Incorrect format: Ensure that the exported file format is supported by Unreal Engine 5.1 and Datasmith.
- Missing dependencies: Check if all the dependencies required to play the animation, such as textures, materials, and bones, are correctly imported into Unreal Engine 5.1.
- Incorrect bone hierarchy: Make sure that the bone hierarchy in the exported animation is set up correctly and that all bones are properly parented to the root bone.
- Incorrect framerate: Ensure that the framerate of the animation is set correctly and that it matches the framerate in Unreal Engine 5.1.

Hi EliasWick,
Thanks for your reply!
-I don’t think the last Datasmith exporter has a lot of options to check. Only option i see is the option to export a single frame of the timeline or the whole timeline.
-Export format is a datasmith export file right? Cant choose which kind of animation format to export…
-Even if i just export a single and simple cube animation with no depencies at all isnt working…
-No bone hierarchy… As said above, even a simple box animation is not importing and give the same message in unreal while importing…
-Is there a setting where i can set the framerate? I export in 30fps and my sequence shots i can set to 30 fps but is there another setting to check?
Thanks in advanced!
