datasmith animated camera import from 3dsmax

How to properly import a camera animation from 3dsmax in UE 5.3?

Datasmith brings the camera but no animation and if I import the animation from an fbx in sequencer the keyframes show up but the whole camera orientation is wrong.

If I try direct import with an fbx there’s no skeletal mesh for the camera and selecting a default skeletal mesh from the options fails to import the camera

Hi hmercado !

Datasmith bakes camera (and objects in general) motion into keyframes. You can find more on the subject in the Animations section of the Datasmith documentation :

Hope this helps !

Cheers,
Antoine

Thank you,
But the thing is Datasmith is just importing the objects and textures but is not creating any Level Sequence or Animation folder alongside my Datasmith Scene Asset.

That’s the first odd thing I noticed after reading the documentation

Any clues? May be a bug?

I will give it another try today and see if it works for me
Will grab screen recording and share it here if it still don’t work

Here, you can see it does not create a level sequence

Silly me
I just noticed the little drop down in the export settings to select the animation range. It is set to current frame only by default. It used to be in the pop up dialog right before hitting export

All good, thank you
