Have there been any updates on how the Beta testing is going? Any news on what’s happening with compatibility with the Corona Render 7 for 3dsmax and the CoronaPhysicalMaterial?

Hi sunn2000 !

Beta testing has not started yet as we are still working on feature parity and stability with the “old” plugin.
Once this is done, we will be working on implementing new features like the new CoronaPhysicalMaterials added with Corona 7 or Direct Link.

Cheers,
Antoine

Is this something we will be seeing in the near term, ie the next month or two or will this be something we see in Q1 2022?

We’re definitely looking at Q1 2022 at the earliest for a public release.

Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Antoine!

Could I also take part in the beta test, please?

Hi Stefan !

Sorry but we’re at capacity for this beta program…
The plugin should be available broadly when UE5.0 releases.

Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Antoine!
Any news on the Datasmith 3ds max livelink/exporter plugin?

Hi Stefan !

We’re rebuilding the plugin from the ground up to have feature parity with the other plugins (Direct Link, AutoSync… and more dedicated features just for 3dsMax, including better VRay/Corona material and light support), and had to delay the plugin for a new target of Unreal Engine 5.1.

Cheers,
Antoine

Thanks for de reply!

Is it possible to build it from source to test it?

Hi Stefan,

If you are feeling adventurous, this is something you could try.
It would require both the Datasmith SDK (available from the git repo) and the 3dsMax SDK.

The files are available here : https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/tree/ue5-main/Engine/Source/Programs/Enterprise/Datasmith

You might encounter build issues, as this is not really intended to be built outside of our dev environment. If you do, please report them and we’ll look at fixing em

Hope this helps ! Keep us updated !
Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Antoine!

Thank you! I give it a try:)
