I am pretty excited to announce that I have submitted my first app to the iTunes store for beta testing.
It is a 3D arcade game that takes place in outer space, traveling through a wormhole while dodging asteroids.
I didn’t want to release any information about the game until it was close to done because I am sure a more experienced programmer could make what I did, in much less time. Despite the simple nature of my game, I think it is a lot of fun to play casually. The type of game you can play while stuck in line at the store.
I have been working on this game for about four months in my spare time and on my vacation. I was able to create a simple mock up in just a couple of weeks which gave me the encouragement to buy a used Mac Pro so I could play my game on my iPhone. I then decided to start over and build it based off Shane’s Tappy Chicken BluePrint framework because when looking at the mobile compatibility page, Tappy ran on everything. Not to mention having it all in one BP sure looks sexy.
I am an artist by profession and I have never programmed anything of significance prior to this game. Just the stuff required for my classes on Coursera. I have only had my hands on UE4 since August. Which is testament to what a phenomenally easy way to program a game. I’ll scream it from the top of the hill programming with BluePrints is FUN!!! Thank you Epic
Still on the fix it list:
- Make a video of gameplay
- Figure out how to make the game run at the same speed, on all IOS devices.
- Get Beta testers. iPhone4 and iPhone5 have been tested. Need to tests on newer iPhones and iPads.
- I would like to change the Space Coffee power up, to be more dramatic.
