Custom Weapon Manager VS Preferred Item Slot

Created a VERSE weapons manager that effectively works like old Unreal Tournament system. Two weapons only, current weapon is replaced by a weapon in the world that you walk over. Two slots are used. The Preferred Item Slot settings that the player chooses overrides/conflicts with this script. Is there a way in VERSE to prevent this setting from interfering with our project without making the player turn this option off themselves. We only want this for our project without affecting the players settings. Thanks in advance for your help.
