Custom Steam "Legit Copy" check

I’d like to ask for your opinion on the following:

I recenty published a game on Steam (3 days ago) and I applied the Steam DRM. The game is now already on torrent.

While I don’t worry too much about it, I was wondering: wouldn’t a simple check OnBeginPlay of whether I can succesfully add an achievement be a better protection than the Steam DRM?

Is there any case in which a legit game launched with Steam connected (the DRM requires that too) would fail to add an achievement?

I’d only need to do that the first launch, after that I would know that the copy is legit.

Am I missing something important? From what I know adding an achievement would fail if Steam doesn’t find the “Steam game” in the library, is it correct?

Thanks!

I also have a game on steam.

No hope basically… :-/

People can run fake steam servers, so talking to steam doesn’t help.

It’s also free publicity.

One way to protect yourself slightly is to add DLC, which changes over time.

You can also actually change the game over time, so people ( I use that word very loosely ) who get the game from places like torrent will get an out of date version…
