After applying a custom material to a fortnite wall build; during heavy gameplay the material disappears. Anyway to burn the new material into the wood of the build? How can I prevent it? Is there a setting to make the material indestructible, for lack of a better term.
Thanks in advance!!
@clappazon Thank you for your report! We would like to look into this further, would you be able to submit a bug report using the form available here? Fortnite Creative

Do you want the prop indestructible too,
or is it just so your material stays on during the cracking and destruction process of the fortnite wall ?.
For use on indestructible Walls…
Right Click on your Content Browser, and select Miscellaneous > Data Asset, next choose BuildingTextureData that’ll give you a new Asset, Rename it, something similar to your material.
Open it up and drag or select your material into the Override Material slot.
Save & Close
Select the wall you want, and drag your new BuildingTextureData into the Texture Data > Primary Slot.
This should keep the texture on all the time now.
and if you want destructible walls with the cracking effect overtop your material, the process is similar, but a few more steps in there.
Let me know if you have probs,
Thank you so much for your reply. I was nervous to even write a question on a forum. The Build itself is indestructible too.
Thank you so much. You’re the best for helping me. I spent 2 weeks on this map and after testing and the color breaking I was going to quit. This was my last attempt; very out of character and you are so so kind!!
Thank you so much… it worked!!! The only issue is now, the wood texture is gone after gameplay and it looks weird once it’s gone. There are some other options available in the texture data wonder if tinting is what I am looking for instead of total texture? I want to keep it looking like wood but indestructible painted wood.
No worries, lets sort the wood texture out,
Is the wood texture a fortnite asset or custom ?
It is a static mesh component.
can you post a pic of its settings ?
Oh no, I can’t seem to replicate what I did once, which was to make a material instance of the fortnite material and then modify its settings for changing its appearance, then using that in the BuildingTextureData.
There are some materials we can use from the Content Browser, but others are locked and I can’t get them.
I am not sure either. I have been trying to do this for a few days now. My UEFN knowledge is very limited.
See if you can find a suitable material in the content browser then turn it into a material instance, you may find an alternative wood pattern to use
Yes. I ended up finding another solution. Thank you so much for your help. You actually taught me how to manipulate textures in a way I didn’t know which ended up helping me figure out a solution!
think you could share the solution you found with me? looking to do something similar
What I did was import another asset and assigned another material in Blender - imported them into UEFN. It was a long process but it worked for me. I recently came across a fairly easy tutorial online. I didn’t try it personally and seems to do it:
This is for future references if anyone has a similar issue. Good luck and I hope it helps
