Custom event not working in my level BP

Hello everyone.

I’m hitting a break wall here and I feel like I’m now starting to complicate what I’m trying to do.

I have a spawn volume that has a custom event in it’s event graph that spawns a crate in it’s location, I want to tie this event to a few things in the game but I’m stuck at the first objective, getting the volume to activate in the level BP once the game has started.

I’ve looked through the documentation and on the answerhub, but I feel that I’m now confusing myself further, so here is what I’ve done so far and I’m hoping someone can steer me back in the right direction.

So this is the custom event in the event graph of the volume, nothing fancy and this bit I understand (To clarify, the system works when plugged into the Event Begin Play node, but I need this on a custom event so I can reference it from multiple BP’s)

My initial thought was to create a function in the volume BP.

And then in my level BP, I would cast from my volume BP and call the function.

But no, no dice, nothing happens, I had also tried just calling the event through the cast node(without the function), same result.

So am I missing something? Have I just got lost in a wave of information trying to solve my own issue?

Any help will be really appreciated, many thanks!

It looks like you’re casting a game instance to SpawnVolume_Destruction. If your SpawnVolume doesn’t inherit from GameInstance this cast will always fail. If your SpawnVolume BP is a subclass of Actor you can use the Get All Actors of Class, then choose the SpawnVolume class. That will give you an array of all the spawn volumes, which you can select one from (or just get index 0 if there is only one).

Fantastic, that was the answer I needed, really appreciate your help!
