Culling foliage not reducing framerate

Hi guys,

This could be a bit of a newbie question. I’m creating a very large scene with tonnes of grass and I’m using the KiteDemo assets. When I fill the world with grass, the framerate understandably drops. What’s confusing me is that reducing the cull distance of the grass isn’t affecting the framerate at all.

GPU is definitely the issue and according to the profiling the biggest hit is ShadowDepths. I’m using VXGI, though I’ve tried turning that off and it didn’t have much of an impact. I thought that when grass was culled it would basically have no affect on framerate and would definitely have no affect on dynamic shadow maps, am I wrong in thinking this?

Any advice on optimizing the grass would be super appreciated!
