Cryengine dev switching over to UE

Hey everyone, this is my first post on the forum,so I beg you to excuse me if this is an innapropriate section for my post.

I used work with Cryengine a few years (CE2,CE3). Lots of buddies moved onto UE4 and now that it`s free im willing to give it a swing. Any tips (links to tutorials, etc…) or whatsoever would be appreciated.
So my question is - how hard would it be to pickup UE? Is it similliar to CE?

-Thanks in advance

Welcome!

I cant help you with the transition and workflow differences between two engines but here are some links to get you started:

Dont forget to use the search bar(on top of the forum page) first whenever you get stuck; it searches through forums, Wiki and AnswerHub, and feel free to ask your questions in the forums and report possible bugs to AnswerHub.

Thanks

Welcome my friend!!

Also make sure to take a look at the wiki: https://wiki.unrealengine/Main_Page and the official youtube channel (tutorials + the latest news) -> https://www.youtube/user/UnrealDevelopmentKit

Overall Unreal 4 is the first engine that has glue that allows one to work from the top down instead of bottom up.

Instead of typing a bunch of stuff out.

What one needs to be aware of is Unreal 4 is not a finished engine as say a UDK or Cry with features that are required from a bottom up requirement but as a top down release with each release including feature additions and refinements that should be expected and included in your design decisions.

Lighting for example, and a very important sub system, was not very good as compared to the above choices but over the iterations has continued to improve that for the most part whats best is to just set things up the way to think it should be and then wait for the result to improve over time.

With that set up.

With a top down approach you can go with what you know and the things you don’t know you can pick up later with the result being your never standing around doing nothing.

Thanks to all who gave links and their welcomes

I`m already liking it alot, now to start creating hehe xD

Welcome. Used to be an old cryengine guy myself.
Depending on what you want to do… not really. Just head over to the UnrealEngine youtube channel. Lots of good stuff on there.

Doing the same here! I’ve been working with CryEngine for so long and have found EAAS pretty underwhelming (considering its a paid product, the support is uh, well you know)

Personally think the transition will be easy, plus theres a lot of support and documentation
