Am having some issues with the crossfade by distance node in the soundcue editor. For example, a light machine gun looping sound asset. 3 separate versions: close up, medium, distant, all three assets the same length, all the exact same timing between shots in each of the three loops. Set up all 3 crossfades on the crossfade by distance node, all is fine, except for the fact that the audio is not in sync between the three versions as they crossfade? Eg. as you crossfade from close to medium, the medium loop has not been triggered at the same time as the close version was and is out of phase with the close version and the same going from medium to far.
Is there any work around for this or any way of maintaining phase/cycle between the three loops as they crossfade?
I’m afraid there isn’t a way of doing this at the moment. When a sound that’s part of a crossfade is at volume 0 then it isn’t played and only starts playing when it has a volume greater than zero. The crossfade by distance node does suggest that it could be used for gun sounds but I think it’s more suited for one shot sounds, where it will only really figure out the mix of sounds once and trigger them all together. I realise this probably isn’t much help as I remember reading your question on whether you could repeatedly trigger sounds for assault rifles.
All I can suggest is to use one sound for all distances and apply low pass filtering via attenuation to make looping sounds sound different at greater distances.
