Hello all,

There is now new functionality to trigger frame callbacks at specific frames of your character animation in the Creature Plugin for UE4!
This is useful to spawn sound effects ( for footsteps ) or particle effects etc.

Cheers

I would like to share my experience using Creature for our upcoming game Spartan (Stream, XB1 and PS4).

Sinister Cyclops Game Studios started developing Spartan using UE4’s Paper2D plugin.

We had great success in the beginning but as we started improving our craft and our understanding of game development in general ,we realized that we, using a sprite based approach was not ideal for many reasons.
Just to name a few: Project size, Animation smoothness ,VRAM consumption and most important of all draw calls and performance.

Then it came to our attention a newly released software that gave us the opportunity to use one texture for a million animations while tweening real time our animations for the most buttery smooth result imaginable!

Since then, the Creature team has worked tirelessly day and night to cater to its customer needs and create the best and only solution currently in the UE4 ecosystem for 2d games and animation.

Since most of you know how much I have fought and criticized the lack of development for Paper2d, it gives me great joy to be able to finally start using Anim notifies for my 2D animations! The latest addition to the Creature arsenal that in my book makes Flipbooks obsolete for most uses. Just by using this new feature I managed to improve 4ms of my CPU thread for consoles!!

If it wasn’t for Creature, we would had probably stopped development or switched to another engine.
I would like to personally thank Mr.Chong for always having our backs and working hard to support us

So if you are even remotely interested in creating anything 2D you should give it a try. It will bring your game to the next level!

Can Creature be used for Front/Back Animations, too?

Would be great to Animate TopDown RPG Characters (seperated sprites and animations per direction).

Yes, you just give it a top down character perspective in your image atlas and animate the legs/hands moving side ways.
