Creating vector fields from 2D images

In the vector field creation guide, it is mentioned that there are many ways to create vector fields for GPU particles. One suggested method I found interesting was the idea of creating a 2D image similar to a normal map to create your vector field.

However, there is no more information about this. Is there a guide, link, or any information elaborating more on this? How do you create a 2D image to be used for a vector field? Is there an example of what one looks like; i.e. is it actually something that looks like a normal map? Is it something you can create in Photoshop, and if so, do you save it as a targa or?..

I’m just a little lost on this and would like to know more, thanks!

We experimented with doing so but ended up removing support for it. We’ll get the documentation updated – sorry about that!

so is the only way to create vector fields, with the use of Maya and the custom Epic Games scripts mentioned in the docs- that are not included with Rocket/UE4?
How can I get the Maya scripts that export .FGA files?

We’re working on figuring out the best format for rocket users to create vector fields.

I actually used those Maya scripts when I was working on some next gen stuff earlier this year. They worked perfectly for me from Maya2012; I was able to do some amazing GPU particle systems, my art lead loved it.
I was just wondering, is there are specific reason the scripts aren’t being provided to Rocket user? Is that pipeline buggy or has issues? It worked perfect for me when I used it back in May/June. Just wondering, thanks for any info.

Nobody seems to know that there is also a script for 3dsmax to create vector fields: 3dsMax to UE4 Vector Fields - YouTube
