Creating Directional Microphone Mechanic

Hi all,

New to developing and looking for a little guidance on a particular mechanic I am trying to implement into my game. I’d like my character to have the ability to listen in on far off conversations (MGS style) with a parabolic microphone. Anyone have any best practices for making this happen? Maybe line trace from the mic that when it hits something moves the audio (and attenuation radius) closer to the character?
