Hey all, I’m looking for some clarification on MetaHuman, the section of the EULA around generative AI uses.
I am a graduate student in the Fine Arts, and am looking to utilize deepfakes as a part of my practice-based research. I had the idea to use MetaHuman(s) for these deepfakes, either replacing my face with a MetaHuman or vice versa (to explore themes of identity, the human/machine relationship/collaboration, create discourse around AI in art/visual media). This is where I’m having some difficulty with understanding the EULA.
Here is the part of the EULA that causes me to pause: “While this Agreement is not intended to prevent you from exercising the rights in Downloaded Characters granted to you by Epic under the Epic Content License Agreement, there are certain things you may not do with the MetaHuman Technology. You may not do any of the following with respect to the MetaHuman Technology or any of its parts: …(j) for the purpose of building or enhancing any database or training or testing any artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, neural network or similar technology;…”
Does the use of rendered video/images of MetaHumans from Unreal Engine (ie linear content rendered from the Engine) fall under this specific section? It specifies that I may not do these things with MetaHuman Technology specifically, rather than Downloaded Characters or linear content created using MetaHuman. I sent a request form but apparently it went to the Sales team, so I was directed here.
So… Am I allowed to create deepfakes using my own rendered, linear content (images/videos) of MetaHuman characters?
