Creating a simple grid Normal map

I am trying to create a very simple Normal map that I can apply over an existing material; what I use UE5 for is to create texture assets that I then print out and put on 3d terrain for tabletop RPGs, so I want to put square grids on everything flat. A decal would be the easiest way to achieve this I believe, but I can’t get past the step where I can take a PNG grid with a transparent background and turn it into a Normal so it can be overlaid on top of a box and feel have that natural indent that I can’t achieve placing the grid over the image in Photoshop/indesign.

What I’m looking for is something like this, but that doesn’t override the existing normal on the box, but instead adds to it:
