Creating a non-human skeleton

Guys, I believe that skinning object in Max3d and exporting it into fbx (the good old way), doesn’t work anymore with the new engine? Am I correct? If so, how (I saw few videos from here: http://www…com/playlist?list=PLZlv_N0_O1gaCL2XjKluO7N2Pmmw9pvhE) am I supposed to create non-human skeleton? For an bicycle for example? How is this process (of rigging and animating non human object) achieved in this new version of editor?

Thank you.

I would like to know this as well. What if I’m creating a snake? I see a lot of information for biped characters but nothing for other types.

I am marking this as answered for tracking purposes.

@ How can you mark this as answered? Wouldn’t be more appropriate to contact one of your colleagues from epic, let them answer that question and then mark it as answered? Surely that’s the correct way to do it, isn’t it?

If no one answers your questions, it will lay around unanswered. Most of us are watching the first 3-4 Pages of the answerhub. Your question is 8 months old, so it’s somewhere no one would find it. If you want to it be answered, bump it after 4 days of not being answered.

To answer your question, i would say you just create the bones you need for you creature inside your favorite Modeling Programm and then animate it.

For example the snake Thumper asked for. It’s just a chain of bones which you later animate so it looks like a snake :X So it should still all work like you did it before with 3DSMax.

After importing them, you can just make an animation blueprint, make blendspaces and transition etc like you would do with a human. I don’t see where there should be a problem. Have you just tried it?

Hi, thank you for your reply. I do indeed tried it some time ago (like 8 months or so  and for some reason I didn’t/couldn’t make it to work, that’s why I posted that question. I will definitely try what you’re saying, and hopefully it works.

As for 's marking it as answered? How can anyone mark unanswered question as answered? This kind of behavior is silly to put it mildly and shouldn’t be accepted. Either contact somebody who could answer this question, and if you fail to find anyone, just contact me and ask if I would consider removing this question. But don’t mark it as answered when clearly no answer has been given. Because it simply doesn’t make sense.

Thank you for your help, will definitely try.
Best regards

Hi ,

Sorry about that. The reason your post was marked as answered is that it had not received any responses after a lengthy time. We do this for our metrics and tracking.

While we are more than happy to assist developers with their games, there is a priority for crashes and bugs over general use questions.

The answerhub does not guarantee a response from an Epic developer. In this case, I would recommend asking this on the forums as well to receive help from the community.
