Hello everyone. I am currently experimenting with Ue5.1, Blender, Cloudcompare and Reality Capture. I want to create a 3D Game in Third-Person mode which plays in a City in Switzerland. To Save Time, (im a newbie and a Student), I thought about using Lidar Scans from the Swiss governement, combine them with Satelite Imagerie, make a 3D Model out of it, add more detailed Scans made with my Drone for the „main Building“ and finishing things up by removing the „blocky“ lidar Trees replacing them with Foliage. I found following Workflow to be somewhat realistic ( See Picture 1). The thing is that I am a complete newbie and i never used any of the Programs mentioned. Has anyone done something similar and knows how its done/ is anyone down to follow me on my journey and help me out? Thanks a lot!
Hello there, newbie too - but I have undrgone official training with TLS. Meshing seems to be the catch with all that, and of course registering all the point cloud data before.
All I can say for sure is that you need to make sure your´re able to handle large datasets. Unless you use a cloud service for meshing. I am facing a similar problem, trying to render point clouds registered and exprted out of ReCap in UE 5.2. The runtime does not show them at all, even though the editor handles them just fine.
Meshing the point clouds works, but that´s a costly process for students, even though ReCap Pro might come with some of the needed cloud credits in it´s educational version. Have a look for that.
Meshlab crashed every time I tried a 2.3 Gb point cloud. I will try the E57 format, it´s much smaller but that for sure is a catch you might want to avoid.
Kind regards
Daniel
