Creating a character feature that can grab things?

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding a feature that I would like to include in a game that me and my friend is working on.

In short this is the idea behind the feature:

Our character would have a magical hair braid that will act as a companion/helper that will be able to grab onto things, pick up objects, swing on it etc. I know basics of scripting however I have no clue how to go about this.

Would I create the braid as a rigged.fbx or would it be a spline objects as it would need to extend and contract depending on what it has to pick up?

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated .

You can pick things up by attaching them to a socket on their wrist. (You add it onto the skeleton).

If you want something that acts like a rope, you could use cable components to build it.

And you could look at IKinema for hands for general interactions if you want to pick up loads of different things.
