Created Asset - What is Possible to do with it?

Hi there,

Recently, I had made a post on ‘Got Skills? Looking for Talent?’.

I am still trying to figure what exactly would even be possible to do with a product/asset I had invented—if anything—in Unreal Engine.

(With a manufacturing partner/supplier, I have mass produced physical product…however, I started to go down this route of exploring potential/possibilities in utilizing it, also, in game dev…)

Is/would a game be able to be created with/around using it (as the most ‘similar’, ‘comparable’ product, what The LEGO Group is currently doing, with their classic LEGO brick and minifigures, has definitely piqued my interest here…)?

The core ‘concept’ around the product/asset is basically this idea of applying art to blank white playing cards (a ‘blank canvas’), and then inserting the cards—in different ways, orientations, even overlapping them in different orientations (and inserting them into the same, single grooves/slots)—into my connectors.

As pictured, would this/these ways of using my connectors + cards be possible, in Unreal Engine?

Thank you!

You can use a plugin for static meshes

You can also attach actor to actor via a specific socket with snap to location / rotation / scale.

You can also get the transform of a specific socket if need be and use that to drive another actors position.

Thank you!

This is immensely helpful/valuable; just watched the video you had provided.

With no game dev experience myself, unless I can find a partner/collaborator, it’s clear this will be/have a bit of a learning curve to it, to make this a reality (expected; not a complaint, just more a reality, as I’m starting to realize, with game dev…)

…Granted, detailed below would be a more ‘physical’ game embodiment or manifestation, but I really started to go down this path of researching game dev, after I had reached out to/exchanged emails with, the SVP of Toy Innovation at a rather large toy company, pitching my ‘toy’ product to him.

He had responded, also CC’ing their head of games design/development, to consider and review.

In his response, he had basically mentioned their/the toy company he works for (possibly) being interested in a (again, physical) game that exists at the intersection of:

—physically building and constructing (he had mentioned Minecraft)

and

—a TCG/CCG, like Pokémon, Magic the Gathering, etc (a sort of build-and-play game, he had mentioned).

My ‘hunch’ is that there ‘could’ also be positive marketing/advertising implications and opportunities, for companies/brands, in the metaverse/3D immersive web—treating the blank cards, in this ‘concept’, as a bit of a ‘billboard’—as they are inserted into my connectors, have art (different colors drawn, painted, textures, etc)/other graphics applied to them (LOGOs? Graphics? Even just creating different elements of terrain, environments, worlds, etc.)

…attached here are some more pictures—as I could only attach (5) x pictures to my initial/original post—of different ‘use cases’ and ‘applications’, where at least I’m thinking, there ‘could be’ potential for a game to be developed with/around using it.

If you/anyone here ‘sees’ potential in this idea/concept, I would love to connect and share/discuss further…
