Create underwater background for a full beginner ?

Hello,
I do photogrammetry of shipwreck and it would be amazing to create an underwater environment around my models.
But is it possible starting from ZERO ? I’d like to have sea water first, and plants, fishes and algaes would be cool and in the futur maybe add a character to dive around.
Thak you for your answers

Hi Karnaage,

Of course it’s possible starting from zero, but I’d consider at least taking a look at this community asset first. At very least you could dissect how he accomplishes things.

That way, you can focus more energy on the shipwreck photogrammetry. (You took images of a shipwreck while scuba diving? O_O )

Consider posting some pics of the models! Welcome to the Forums!

Thank you very much for your answer ! I’ll start with that thanks to you ! As it is still winter here, I did not photogram wreck yet (because of the weather and my physical condition). No scuba for me, too easy  I hope to do it while freediving. I started photogrammetry 1 month ago with dry training. Table d'orientation du Plateau de la Garoupe à antibes - YouTube Ancre du petit jardin de la Chapelle de la Garoupe à Antibes - YouTube

I just had a look to Karim’s work, it’s amazing, I don’t need to do it myself !!! I can’t find the tutorial video he wrote about, do you know where it is ? Thank you so much again !!!

If I may, could I ask you for advices : how to put an object inside a blueprint (is that correct ?). Export in mdl or obj format ? Another ? Thank you  I need to train before going underwater !

I’m lost  I did import one 3D model (Ancre) (but no color) but I can’t import karim’s underwater blueprint… don’t know how to do…

Ah, very clean photogrammetry model!

I’m not aware of any tutorials he wrote about it, what I’m suggesting is to download his project from gumroad and use that for placing your meshes into.

For the color on the :anchor: you’d need to apply a material to the mesh. (Textures feed into Materials and Materials are assigned to meshes) - If you’re new to the engine ‘Your First Game’ is a good place to start learning.

thank you ! I already download the package, unzip but I don’t know how to put it in UE5
I have the texture in the model but dunno how to apply it on the anchor. I have to see your link thank you again.

Hi, I just tried to open the project but I can only see the default project with sand…

because of orange logs maybe ?

Are there any Ocean-related levels in your ‘Maps’ folder?

I found the video !! And so sorry to be a meganooob I didn’t know I just have to grab and drop on screen… I have those error messages but I can see water now even if I don’t know if I’m doing good

Oof, Using Unreal Engine will be much less painful for you if you just take about 3hrs and watch those beginner tutorials!

It’s troubling that those error messages are overlapping, It looks like the instructions for fixing the red one are on the second and third lines. For the orange directional lights one, you could try following the instructions (each directional light has a property ‘ForwardShadingPriority’ accessible through the details panel) or - Delete any extra directional lights. (You usually only need one)

Alternatively, press the tilde “~” key and type disablescreenmessages to hide those for now.

Thank you very much

Hi, Where can I find ‘ForwardShadingPriority’ accessible through the details panel?

Hello 25, welcome to the Forums.

You might need to expand the ‘Advanced’ tab.

Oooooh! Thank you very much! I found it!
