Crash with shader worker on UE 5.1

Hi. Recently I updated from UE 5.0.3 to 5.1. But as soon as I start it, not even getting into a project but trying to create a new one, it just crashes. All points to the shader compiler worker as the error says.

Assertion failed: Handle [File:D:\build++UE5\Sync\Engine\Source\Developer\ShaderCompilerCommon\Private\DXCWrapper.cpp] [Line: 59] Failed to load module: …/…/…/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/ShaderConductor/Win64/dxil.dll

Been searching for a solution but could not find anyone with the same error.
I have a pretty good PC, the RTX updated and Visual studio 2022 installed.
Anyone knows a solution or found the same issue?

Having same issue with my brand new Puget machine. Can’t open UE.

I’m also experiencing this same issue on a brand new PC build on Windows 11 with a fresh install of Unreal Engine.
Ryzen 9 7950x
Radeon RX 7900XTX
Have been unable to open UE on this machine due to this error.

Not sure my issue applies, but was working on 5.1 project, switched materials, all was fine, then boom, tried to save all,and got this, and I keep getting eventually after certain edits to terrain etc:

thx anyone,im on unreal at discord now if anyone is around

Hmm, I suggest trying the following to see if it helps in some way:

  • Verify the integrity of your Unreal Engine installation files.
  • Reinstall the DirectX runtime and any related redistributables.
  • Make sure your graphics card drivers are up-to-date.
  • Ensure that Visual Studio 2022 is properly installed and configured.
  • Try running Unreal Engine as an administrator.
  • If you still experience the issue, try uninstalling and reinstalling Unreal Engine 5.1.

This could be a bug since so many of you are experiencing it. I suggest creating a bug report to get further assistance from the Unreal Engine team.

ty , AND oops,I somehow had checked dx11 as well as 12,maybe that was causing issues Lol, who knows…anyway, I’d seen the warning in 5.1 before, but dismissed it before thinking it was fine, NOT seeing dx11 was also checked.

Ill try the others as well and see what happens. Bug report today.
amd driver was a bit old, so updating that as I write this, hope I don’t regert going to amd this time, saved gtx 950 just in case , so we’ll see. The dx 6600 is a wonderful card for the price, so we’ll see if driver update does it along with other adjustments going fwd.

Thanks  :grinning:
