Crash on startup - Assertion failed: StateCache.GetHasValidRenderTarget() - OS X

I’m having an issue with UE 4.11.2. It used to be able to launch (Although it seemed very unstable, crashing at least once every 15 minutes). Now it refuses to launch at all - not even to the project creation screen.
What I’ve tried:

  • Verifying UE4 (Many times)
  • Reinstalling UE4 (Twice)
  • Deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Epic
  • Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/Unreal Engine

Hi CraftedCart,

With the Launcher closed, try deleting the DDC (Derived data cache) from your installed directory as well as the project (if it exists.)

Try to reopen Launcher if possible. If not, delete the Config, Intermediate, and Saved folders from your project folder and make a back up. Retry opening the Launcher/Editor. If this fails, completely delete the Install directory and Unreal projects folder (Again back-up all projects you want to save including downloaded content, etc.) and Re-download and install UE4.

If the Launcher installs successfully, close and copy your projects back, 1 at time, starting with the project you deleted the DDC, Config, intermediate and Saved folders from, as this is most likely the directory causing the issue.

If you cannot open the launcher after re-installing (if necessary) please post your Machine ID so we can find your crash data in our Crash Reporter, provided you hit “submit” when the crashes occurred.
