Crash on start in debug build

I am trying package my android game for a debug game build because at a certain point in game it is crashing in the shipping build so i need the log
but when i build the deubggame build it crashes on start and gives this error in the log

I have tried deleting all the binaries, intermediate, deriveddatacache and saved
still getting same issue when i switch to shipping it gets fixes

Meaning, the engine is not finding a required material shader, which was most likely not cooked. The best approach here would be to force a full re-cook, so the DefaultLightFunctionMaterial is properly captured.

Now, you mentioned that Binaries/Intermediate/Saved were already deleted from your project folder, but you also need to make sure that the copy of DDC in your local app data engine folder is also deleted. Any stale shader data left there can affect the process.

Once you cleared that up, run the following commands:

r.ShaderDevelopmentMode=1
r.Shaders.Optimize=0

Then start the cook from Platforms > Cook Content > Android.

You should also check how your shaders are being saved in the build. Go to Project Settings > Packaging, and search for “Share Material”. Now, check the status for “Share Material Shader Code” and “Shared Material Native Libraries”. If they are disabled, enable them (or viceversa), then test a fresh cook. This will alter how the shaders are bundled with the materials.

One more thing to check for your packaging, ensure that all your required maps are included for the build. Go back to Project Settings > Packaging, and search for “map”, which should get you to “List of maps to include in a packaged build”.

but just i am curious why does it work in shipping version though

Ok so i tested it still crashing with same error

So firstly i deleted of ddc , binaries , intermediate , saved of local app also deleted of the ddc from engine folder.

then ran the console command provided.

and cooked the android data it still crashed
so i disabled the shared material shader code and native libraries
and packaged once again it still crashed with the same error.

Glad you were able to test the changes, yet it seems the error remains active. And it’s still pointing to the same elements (DefaultLightFunctionMaterial / missing FMobileDirectionalLightFunctionPS).

Now, since a cache clear and re-cook did not solve the issue, at least we can rule out corrupted/stale data in your build. So, it has to be a shader conflict, tied to FMobileDirectionalLightFunctionPS. Checking around the community, that shader in particular is only used when Light Functions are in effect, which are often not used in mobile builds.

Meaning, the approach could be to fully ignore this shader, preventing the crash alltogether. To do so, check all lights in your scene, and set their “Light Function Material” to None. After that, open your DefaultEngine.ini file and add the following lines:

[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
r.LightFunctionQuality=0

Finally, cook a new build, and test if the crash is gone. If it continues, please test by creating an empty level, with a single light, using no Light Functions, and pack said level. That one should result in no crash at all. If so, something is still enforcing the shader in your project.

I dont understand what is using a light function as there are no lights in the empty level i tested

i was just checking i think the debug apk started crashing after i connected to google play support to use it the save system to save my save game and load from it on start

So can the crash be related to anything related to to debug signing or something not sure just asking because it is only crashing in debug build and on a empty level also
