Trying to create my first android build and i crashes as soon as the “Unreal Engine” logo dissapears from the screen. I used the first person template as base and building the apk of just that works fine on mobile, but as soon as I import a building into my project, it crashes.
Some details :
The building model is made in Skech Up and I am using datasmith to import the building model.
When I press play in the editor, it freezes up for quite a while and the same happens when I exit play.
I believe it has to do something about optimizing the building model, but I am completely new to android so I don’t really know how and what to do.
Thank You.
Hey there @ShivamKumar! Welcome to the community! After the first launch in editor does the time to play reduce at all? Does the editor run fine in regular play outside of the mobile preview? Could we see the logs for the crash itself or does it just freeze?
If you can follow this documentation, you can take a look and see what could be causing the crash.
you could try disabling ogl and only enabling vukan
sketchfab makes some bad polygons
best to take it into blender and"merge by distance"
and just use fbx leave datasmith out
Hello, thank you for responding, I am not running it in mobile preview, just the default “Selected Viewport” option.
Thank you for sharing the link and I’ll be sure to send the log soon.
Hello, thank you for responding, I am not using sketchfab, I am using a different software SketchUp, I had to use this because the model that I got is in .skp format. I’ll look into your suggestion of using blender. Since I don’t have much experience with blender either, I hope you might be able to share some resources on how to do the “merge by distance” thing.
google created ketchfab
it make wierd stuff like
coplanar faces and duplicate verts.
always export as fbx and merge by distance in blender or maya
it was a lot
I remember testing it out once and there was so much bad geo in the models I gave up and made them from scratch faster than fixing the artifacts
