Plants pose too many problems to capture properly using the photogrammetry method. Often being made up of very thin stems that are difficult to focus, having overlapping elements that obscure the details behind, and being sensitive to wind and wilting, plants require a different approach to effectively scan them.
Scanning plants involves a different technique known as Photometry. At its most basic level, vegetation scanning involves carefully separating plants into individual parts and then scanning the individual parts in 2D. Once scanned, the parts are used to digitally reassemble the plant. The role of the scan operator is to collect, separate, and scan all plant parts necessary to digitally recreate similar plants.
