Thank you for bringing it up and also posting your solution! UE5 changed significantly since I started recording the course the first time so a lot of times it is hard to match the the variables from your session to mine 1:1. Happy to see the city coming together. Looking forward to seeing it when it is done!

Terrible Video Quality!

@Psmontte I saw you mentioning this multiple times on different platforms that the video and audio quality wasn’t upto your standards. I am sorry to hear that, this was my first time creating a huge course so I am also learning a lot and will improve on these things in the next one. However, for 7+ hours of content provided for free, I hope you can move past the recording issues and use the wealth of knowledge taught in it.

In regards to the complaints on video quality - it appears it’s only one of the videos that have really bad quality - “Designing the City Foundations”. The other videos have fine quality.

Also @indystry, I’m currently at the foliage tool section of the tutorial, and there doesn’t seem to be an ‘actor foliage’, only a ‘static mesh foliage’ type available (in version 5.3). What should I do to make this work?

Edit - figured it out. Had to make a new ‘basic’ level, as I’d made an ‘open world’ level which enables World Partition, which doesn’t allow Actor Foliage.

Thank you for constructive feedback. Knowing where the issue was helped a lot as I watched couple of chapters and the resolution looked ok. I missed out this one. The editor from their team probably exported it incorrectly, but its ok, I have reported this to the Epic editorial team. Hopefully we can quickly have a higher resolution version in quickly. Thanks again!
Glad you figured out a solution to your issue.

No worries. Thanks for the course, btw! I’ve been really enjoying it, and it was also right up my alley for the cyberpunk-style stuff I’ve had in mind for trying my hand at. It also introduces different approaches to virtual film-making that I’d never considered before, such as using videos as part of the landscape building.

Happy to hear this feedback, thank you so much! Btw I got Epic editorial team to replace that low res chapter with 1080p original video that I had provided. Hopefully that fixes it.

Hi Indy. Just a heads up that the video still hasn’t been replaced yet and is still in the same state.

That’s so strange, when I messaged last, I checked it personally and it showed 1080p and it looked visually higher quality with UE UI being readable. Right now, I still see 1080p option but selecting it doesn’t update the quality for some reason.

Hello, I think it got updated, would you mind quickly verifying this on your end?

Yep, that’s looking good now! Looks the same as the other videos. :+1:

Hi, amazing course so far, thanks for sharing it @indystry .
I have an issue in 5.3.2 regarding the rectangle lights in module 14, the source texture blurs as soon as I put the light a bit further from the mesh it is projecting on. So I get a very uniform light and it defeats the purpose of using the texture, do you have any idea how I could solve this ?

Hello! Thank you for taking the course! I personally haven’t ran into the issue tbh. However the reason why I included blurry versions of the same traffic videos is because in the lights you would want to animating textures that aren’t sharp and defined but instead blurry so the movement in the light is not super perceptible. But yeah, if the bug is causing you to not see any texture and it reverts back to simple color then yeah, it defeats the purpose. I have a discord server where I am present for any one on one troubleshooting that you would like to do.

Is there an easier way to let the animated signs playing without the need to open the video players and push play every time?

Following the class to add animated Gifs to the city signs.

Tried to enable AnimatedTexturePlugin but it didn’t work.

I downloaded the zip files from Github, decompressed to a folder in my computer, added the Plugin folder to my project but when I try to reopen the project and rebuild it I get
“[project name] could not be compiled. Try rebuilding from source manually.”

I’ve gotten up to the ‘import road video’ section, but I don’t have Nuke or After Effects. Do you know of any suitable free software that could handle the tracking and stabilisation just as well?

You don’t need any software as already stabilized road videos are provided in the source files found on the course page. You can just use that for now
If you want to stabilize your own video then download a copy of nuke non commercial and stabilize any video in there
