Starting with the “Master Materials” chapter, I found this to be an excellent tutorial on many foundational aspects of shading and texturing for Unreal. Every team will need one or more carefully constructed Master Materials to make it easy to set up mesh assets imported from external asset creation apps and create variations on them.
It also shows how to think about more procedural ways of texturing more generic elements like rocks/rock formations etc. using only tileable texture sets directly in Unreal. Those more generic mesh assets can be nothing more than the mesh and UVs.
I recommend this intermediate level course to any TA wanting to build their own Master Materials, and to more fully understand what maps to generate in your asset pipeline to get the most out of them in game.
This is without any doubt one of the best (if not the best) material related courses for environment and level artists. Great presentation and examples.
It is an intermediate level course and requires some basic understanding of materials.
