Hello,
I have noticed a weird behavior during export of some 3d models with RC through the CLI.
Somehow I only observed it since the 1.0.3.10393 version and cannot reproduce it with version 1.0.3.9303, which leads me to think that this bug was recently introduced.
The command I’m running is something like the following (I removed the paths to make it less cluttered to read):
RealityCapture.exe -set "appQuitOnError=true" -set "appQuitOnReset=true" -disableOnlineCommunication -set "appProcessActionTime=0" -set "appProcessAction=2" -set "appProcessExecCmd=path\to\ErrorWriter.bat $(processResult) $(processId) $(processDuration:d) path\to\ErrorReport.txt" -load \<path\_to\_input\_project\> -importGlobalSettings \<path\_to\_settings\> -align -setReconstructionRegion \<path\_to\_recregion\> -mvs -renameModel NEW\_MODEL -save \<path\_to\_output\_project\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_1M\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD0\> -renameModel parent\_model -calculateTexture -exportModel parent\_model \<path\> \<xyz\_params\_path\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_500K\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD0\> -renameModel LOD0 -reprojectTexture parent\_model LOD0 \<path\_to\_repro\_settings\> -exportModel LOD0 \<path0\> \<fbx\_params\_path\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_250K\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD1\> -renameModel LOD1 -reprojectTexture parent\_model LOD1 \<path\_to\_repro\_settings\> -exportModel LOD1 \<path1\> \<fbx\_params\_path\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_125K\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD2\> -renameModel LOD2 -reprojectTexture parent\_model LOD2 \<path\_to\_repro\_settings\> -exportModel LOD2 \<path2\> \<fbx\_params\_path\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_125K\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD3\> -renameModel LOD3 -reprojectTexture parent\_model LOD3 \<path\_to\_repro\_settings\> -exportModel LOD3 \<path3\> \<fbx\_params\_path\> -simplify \<path\_to\_simplify\_to\_65K\_polygons\_setting\_file\> -unwrap \<path\_to\_unwrap\_LOD4\> -renameModel LOD4 -reprojectTexture parent\_model LOD4 \<path\_to\_repro\_settings\> -exportModel LOD4 \<path4\> \<fbx\_params\_path\> -save \<final\_project\_save\_path\> -quit
So basically, this is simplifying the same model multiple times in order to get multiple level of details for the same model (LODs). The texture is each time reprojected from the higher resolution model.
It turns out that pretty systematically, one of the fbx files created in that matter will have a corrupted texture (see screenshot).
It is not always the same fbx file. I believe this happens during exporting since the texturing problem is not visible in RC, and re-exporting the model manually does not produce the same defect.
here is the corrupted fbx file (imported in Blender):
Here is what it should look like (another uncorrupted fbx):
Let me know if you need more details !
Cheers
