Copyright of guns

I recently bought a weapon pack from the unreal marketplace. I was wondering if i could get sued for using different weapon models that look really realistic in my game. The model shapes look extremely simular to real ones but they are not named the same.
Here an example (real weapon name is Makarov):

Technically, yes, but you would need to have some things in place to really get attention

  1. Sell a LOT of copies

  2. Have some part of the game very focused on the types of gun. For instance, you could buy extra guns as paid content packs.

Apart from that, you’re probably ok.

Hey @Silent_69! Welcome to the forums!

To add on a bit more, here are a few extra factors to keep in mind when using weapons in your game:

  • Is it still being manufactured and sold?
  • Is it historical?
  • Does your firearm have some specific features that would link it to a well known manufacturer/gun?
  • Is the design of the gun specifically fall under copyright/trademark or free to use like the AK-47?

There is always the option of reaching out to a manufacturer to ask questions if you are willing to go that far!
