Copy or create child of generic mod data?

Should I be copying or creating a child of the generic mod data? I’ve been wondering this for a while, been copying it up until now, but I was thinking…if that data gets modified, then won’t I have to copy it back over to my mod folder and re-reference everything, because the primalgamedata_BP will not match? Or am I a complete dumbass and thinking of this completely incorrectly…?

What I do is copy the primalgamedata from the main folder, NOT GenericMod folder (only because the genericmod one is missing the skins or at least was last I checked) then make sure it is parented to the primalgamedata_base bp.
Has worked great so far.
