Convert pin types

Hello Epic Games!

I have one request here, that would help blueprints to be more cleaner, when developer has to deal with much converting stuff… So, the idea is to add a possibility to convert a pin to another type right on a node istead of adding separate node. Just like Make/Brake structures, where you can RMB > Split struct.

You press RMB on a pin, select “Convert to…” and then select the type you want to get.

Here are some pics to get my point.

Now it is now:

How I suggest:

In my opinion, it would help some developers to keep clean their blueprints, and also be a bit faster than searching for converting nodes.

P.S. Sorry, if someone suggested this before.

Great idea. I agree with TS.

What also would be cool if the pins have their original color and the wire has a color gradient, shifting from one color to the other along the wire.

Hmm… That is also great idea. That way you wont have to convert it manually, that would be automatically as it does now, but without any messy nodes.

…On the other hand, if the conversion is used multiple times, the extra node can actually somewhat improve readability…

Well, cannot disagree with you, but I’m not saying to remove convert nodes in editor. Just to add another feature. As you make know, same thing we can do with structures (vectors and transform as well). We can call Make/Break nodes, as well as RMB > Split struct pin right on a node.

Maybe the best compromise would be if those nodes were smaller, like the reroute nodes…

Small reroute nodes with color gradient and multiple outputs. Sounds great.

Hello, I think this would be a really cool feature. I have entered a feature request. The ticket number is UE-18036 and is is being considered by the Epic Development Team.

interesting how your idea actually got realised in ue5
