Does anyone know if it’s possible to take an existing landscape (that has not be set up for partition streaming) and convert it to a landscape that can be proxy streamed?
I saw that I could export the landscape as a heightmap, however, I would lose any of the detailed painting that it had.

Exactly, you can export the heightmap, but you can also export the layers!
It happened to me the same after changing the resolution of the Landscape, for some reason I lost the Proxies.
Then you can do an import of the heightmap + the layers.
If you have foliage, don’t remove the old landscape yet.
First remove the collision of the old Landscape, then go to Foliage, ‘Select all’ and ‘reapply’. That will make the foliage to use the new foliage instead.
Maybe there is another way of doing it, but I managed to do it that way, using 5.5.4
